Shroedinger's cat was both dead and alive until they opened the box. So i don't think it is a successful analogy. I my opinion, the sound wouldn't exist for Helen, but it would for Anne, so it depends on what your viewpoint is. Maybe if Helen had some type of vibrating sound detector she could indirectly infer the sound.

Sound is a result of vibration, and therefore the result is the same, whether or not anyone is around to hear it, or if a person has the ability to hear or not. As for the expressed opinion, the wife will contradict him only if she followed him into the forest and heard him express it.

Yes. And true that one can hear, but the other while not hearing can still feel vibration made by both sound waves and impact of an object.

it can be there and not be there. a tree falling makes sound waves, which does not turn into sound until they travel through the ear and get translated by the brain.
