Genghis Khan didn't rule a kingdom - he united/conquered many lands making it more an empire, than a kingdom. His origins are linked to Mongolia and he came from a tribal family.
Genghis Khan united the Mongolian tribes and founded the Mongol Empire which lasted from 1206–1368. The areas of his reign encompassed much of modern Asia & into part of eastern Europe: China, Mongolia, Russia, Ukraine, Korea, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Poland, Hungary and many other countries in between.

Genghis Khan was a Mongol political and military leader or Khan (posthumously Khagan) who united the Mongol tribes and founded the Mongol Empire (1206–1368), the largest contiguous empire in world history.
While his image in most of the world is that of a ruthless bloodthirsty conqueror, Genghis Khan is an iconic and admired figure in Mongolia and China, where he is seen as the father of the Mongol Nation of Mongolia and precursor to a united China under his grandson Kublai Khan.

Just so that we are clear. Genghis Khan ruled a great empire, not a kingdom. In Khan's empire, there are probably dozens of kingdoms. There is a big difference.

They were effective because they were good in battle and had advanced weaponry at the time. They were able to conquer vast amounts of land, which was also their downfall. Since they had so much land under control, it was hard for them to keep rule over all of it. The rulers for the different areas had a hard time keeping in touch with one another.
