welll you hook up the USB from your ipod to the computer. you don't need anything else.

to download songs online, go to a media website, you click a song you want, click save and save it into a folder, then open it into your iTunes. When you connect your ipod to your computer, it should automatically open up iTunes and start copying the songs into your ipod.

I hope that helps!
Good luck :)

Go online to to apple.com/support and download the lastest version of itunes and the ipod updater, then install both programs, run the ipod updater and follow the directions, then run itunes and put all the music you want on your ipod in your itunen, after that just connect your ipod to the computer, and the itunes will transfer all of the selected music to your ipod. ALso to download music off the net you can use any kind of p2p program like morpheus which can be downloaded at download.com

hope this helps

apple makes ipods easy, make sure you have the program itunes on your computer, it is a free download from apple.com if you don't, and make sure you have songs in itunes, you can load cd's on to your computer through itunes to get songs on it or you can buy songs through the itunes music store within the itunes application when you download it, you have to give a credit card but i have been doing it for 3 years and it has been safe, once all that is taken care of, just plug it in, usually starts to download automatically to the ipod, but if it doesn't just drag the songs/albums in to the ipod icon on the left part of the itunes window, piece a cake
