It doesn't "mean" anything I'm afraid ;-)
Bats go out at night to hunt flying insects, including a lot of mosquitoes. They use their radar (which is based on sound waves, like the sonars used by submarines). Their eyes are very sensitive to light, so it there is an open window or door with light inside, it may overcome their senses for a split second, and they may enter the house.
Once inside if the light remains on they'll most likely stay put on a wall (unlike birds who would fly around in panic) where they can easily be picked up and released outside (better to wear gloves, cause even if they normally don't bite, they can carry diseases). Better still, turn off the light, and since they can find their way so well in the dark, they'll most likely find the way out easily.
If such incidents happen regularly, all it can mean is that you have lots of bats near your house. It means that there is lots of food (mosquitoes), and that there is a suitable space for them to nest. In some cases that space could even be the attic of the house (they like dark, quiet places).
Are bats in an attic a bad thing? Not per se, they're not dangerous and they don't damage buildings. However if you had thousands of bats in an attic, their accumulated droppings would attract insects, some of them not of your favourite kind (cockroaches).
How do you get rid of them? If you trouble the quiet of their nesting place, they'll leave pretty quickly, in a matter of days. If you cannot do that, the problem is that bats are attached to the spot and will return, even if chased.
Hope this helps

There are too many different meaninigs--it depends on what country of even state you are from. Some say it will bring prosterity others think it means a death will happen soon. And everything you do to the bat affects the outcome of the meaning. For instance if you kill the bat some think someone close to you will die, but if you let it go lives are spared. Go to this website. http://www.batcon.org/batsmag/v10n4-5.html
It really just means there are bats in your neighborhood. (LOL)

In Native Mythology, the bat is a symbol for rebirth. The reasoning behind this belief is that when a bat is at rest or asleep, it hangs upside-down. The same position humans are in when they are about to exit the birth canal. As you have just experienced a bat presence or "bat medicine" in your home...
Perhaps it is signaling a new beginning for you. This could mean that you are going to move from your present residence or that you are at a major turning point in your life. If you have been experiencing some anxiety with known or unknown changes that are about to take place, the bat is a very strong indication that all is going to be well.

In China, the name for bat is "fu", which means happiness; the Chinese believe that the bat brings happiness and good luck. A drawing of two bats represents Shou-Hsing, god of long life; this symbolizes good wishes. A drawing of five bats signifies the five blessings of health, wealth, long life, happiness, and peace.
In Japan, however, the bat symbolizes unhappiness, unrest, and chaos. To the Buddhists, it means incomplete and dark understanding.
The ancient Mayans worshipped a bat god whom they considered a very powerful deity. In Mexico, there was a city named Tzinacent Lan ("Bat City"). The bat was treasured medicine power to the Aztec, Toltec, Tolucan, and Mayan people.
In medieval alchemy, the meaning of the bat was similar to that of the dragon and the hermaphrodite.
Magickal attributes of the bat: The knowledge to avoid obstacles, barriers, and troublesome people. Undergoing a shamanistic death, which is learning to transform the old self into a new being. Releasing habit and personality patterns that keep you from progressing. Viewing past lives in order to learn how death occurred each time; using this knowledge to make you more comfortable with the life and death cycle of all life. Especially helpful when facing the death of a loved one or close friend.

It means you have to trap that bat, and let it loose outside where it can eat mosquitoes and other insects.
Dont touch it, as it may have rabies and you dont want to have to get shots in the belly for it!!
Get an animal control officer to remove it, if you cant trap it successfully yourself.
I would also keep all the open windows and doors closed awhile, so that he/she doesnt decide to return the way it came in the first place.
I wish you well..

Well, it really doesn't mean anything except that you've left a window or door open. ;-)
However, from a folkloric point of view, Chinese revered bats as a symbol of good fortune, happiness, contentment, and fullfillment as its name in Chinese sounds extremely similar to good fortune. And the depiction of a bat upside down usually symbolises that good fortune has arrived as in Chinese language the phrase "upside down bat" sounds very much like "good forutne has arrived".
You will find that the bat motif (albeit highly stylised) is incorporated in many of China's arts & crafts as well as everyday artifacts.
