It reminds me of a race, like the Indianapolis 500. It starts with "Gentlemen, start your engines" and then they all wait to begin the race.

On one side, you have the Sunnis that are egged on by--gasp, it cannot be, they aren't supposed to be there--Al Quida terrorists who train and direct them. On another side, there are the Shiites, who also have some foreign insistence with--gasp, it cannot be, Saddam must be having a cow (because he had this big war with them)--Iranians who are training, equipping, and directing Shiite militias to fight against Sunnis. Then, there are the Kurds, whom both Sunnis and Shiites can't stand because they really aren't Iraqis anyway but they don't want to let them go--gasp, it cannot be, this was supposed to be why the US is there--because they profit from oil pumped under Kurdish territory. Then there is the US--and all the liberals go boo, hiss, while the conservatives cheer--who is trying to keep things together peaceably so they can go home.

We sent a small force which badly beat one of the largest standing armies in the world at the time in just a few weeks. Then we tried to quell a civil war which Saddam prevented by being a cruel and ruthless tyrant than no one dared to oppose lest he toss them into shredders, imprison children, or even have their tongues cut out from disrespectful words.

Almost every day, we lose soldiers. Someone last week was crying that we lost 5 soldiers that day--but didn't say a word about the 50 Iraqis that were killed in bombs. For months, if not the last couple years, more Iraqis are the target and object of the violence than Americans. Our people are trying not merely to stop people from killing our people, but our people are trying very hard to keep their people from killing their people. That's what's going on.

You cannot fight terrorist with an army. The people of the world must be united in the effort with neighborhood watches to help find the terrorist and report them to the police.
