ok I don't do the whole stalker 360 thing but I do find the square boxes boring and the excited faces irritating and the guy avators with long hair sexy. Even though its illogical. I do.

I like the tricks people play. If a 360 page is interesting then it means the person is interesting. If someone manages to make an avatar interesting then the person is particularly ingenious. It's all part of the fun.
Intellectually, it may seem swank to say that the literal aspects of the questions and answers are the only things that really matter, but humans, like other sighted creatures, place a lot of importance on appearances. They are inevitably perceived as important instinctive signals, and the ability to manipulate the impressions we create using avatars and 360 pages is part of the human intellect that is vital to this site.
Those who say they are not influenced by the avatars are in the same ilk as those who say they are unaffected by advertising. It would be like pretending they take no notice of the pictures on the television news.
To answer the remainder of your question, I don't hate the plain boxes, but the people who rely on them are either making a deliberate statement about their anonymity, in which case their statement is lost in the crowd, or perhaps have not got the hang of using the system, or if not then they're taking too much for granted and are choosing to disregard an important and natural aspect of human communication. Their presumptuous disregard could be perceived as arrogance.

I don't look at the Yahoo avatars much, they're not very interesting other than being cartoony. Photo avatars really stand out, because they represent someone's personality. I do hate the plain smiley box, I tend to skip those Q's altogether. Every once in a while....yeah I'll go to a 360....if they advertise, I'm at least gonna window shop!

About the only use I can see for avatars is helping to quickly locate questions or answers offered by people I find quite funny, or intelligent, or both. But then, several people who fall in to one or the other or both these categories have the same or very similar avatars anyway.
I sometimes visit 360 pages - Some are actually very well done indeed, and it seems to me that if people are willing to make the time to put so much work in to them, and want visitors, it is churlish not to make the time to browse.

I don't like the little smiley boxes. I like looking at the avatars because someone took the time to create them. It doesn't affect which questions I'll pick to answer

Avatars don't mean anything, as everyone usually makes out they are better looking than they are in real life. i don't usually read people's 360, because I don't really enjoy those.
