at 9 months it's not bad for him......because he isn't aware of the messages and social norms of your society....what it breaks down to him at that age is shapes and sounds. a child at that age and younger responds in changes in geopetric shapes of things such as faces. that why a child will giggle when you sit there and converse with them and make facial gestures.....the changes in geometrical shapes of feateures in your face pleases the child......stare at the child blankly without making a sound and the child will do whatever it can to stimulate changes in your demeanor...such as start fussing and crying until you begin to talk and change facial expressions. these interactions stimulate development in the childs brain......it wouldn't be any different than the child watchig the teletubbies at this point in it's life... as long as it's for an hour and not considered the child's new babysitter...a little tv isn't bad for your child. it's a heck of alot better then sitting him in a room with no stimulus at all

First, I would like to say that whoever posted your child should be taken away is going way to far and they are way out of line and should apologize. Anyways, I don't see any harm in letting him watch the music videos, and if he likes dancing to them, than pick him up and dance around the room with him. I think it's great that he loves music so much and it's only an hour a day, it's okay. I would limit the television to two hours per day though. My son won't even watch T.V. and sometimes I wish he would just so I could get some things done around the house. As far as baby videos go, they do have some excellent childrens videos called Baby Einstein which he may or may no like...I don't know if he's too old for them yet. I listen to a lot of different types of music and their daddy listens to rock; they haven't had any problems yet so far. Have fun!!

Children soak up everything they see. Even young kids. I think it is a very unhealthy idea to let him watch those videos, especially with some of the words they say and the moves they do. Babies learn through imatation, and he may start to imitate those moves or say some of those words. You don't want his first word to be slut do you? Try buying some baby music video tapes or switching to country. While some country videos are getting just as bad, they say far less cuss words and don't usually have the explicit dance moves. You may think that he is too young to understand, but you would be surprised. Would you want your 4 year old to watch VH1? Hopefully not. So the same goes for a 9 month old. You want them to see and imitate good behavior.

At 9 months it doesn't make much difference but he'll get older and you don't want his first words to be the lyrics to Promiscuous Girl or whatever crap he's been hearing. I also wouldn't want my child seeing people dressed the way they do on music videos. Have you seen the ratings they have on TV now? I doubt VH1 has a G rating, even early in the morning.

Its fine my baby does it too. At this age they don't know whats going on they just like the colors and music. I read that the only reason TV is bad for kids is cause instead of playing and going outside they watch TV which leads to overweight kids. But a baby that young can't go play outside and get exercise, so whats the harm. My daughter watches TV, sometimes. I don't let her do it all the time, and i play with her a lot too. And plus do you remember watching TV when you where his age?

I really don't think that its a problem, as long as it is not sexual images or things like that. You are a good mother and don't listen to people tell you otherwise.
My Boys watch TV and they are happy, healthy children. It is all about moderation.. that's it.
I would think that maybe you may want to try something like The Wiggles. They are so much fun for little ones. Their is also a lot of interaction that little ones can do along with the music.

Music cant be a bad thing unless it is portraying a negative image...my daughter listened to music for her whole first year and nor she is big enough to get up and dance and she even sings the songs too......she is two....I would suggest cutting it down 10 minutes a week and only let him watch a couple videos....try and get him into a social group with other little children and they can dance together...

It does depend on what's in the videos, are you monitoring for anything most people would think innapropriate? Maybe try breaking the hour up with some different styles of music on CD, or try some of the childrens DVD's with dance and excercise? My daughter doesn't always seem interested when I provide her with a new activity but that doesn't last for long.
