Avast! is great, and so is ewido.
Avast! is totally free (www.avast.com/eng/download.html)
ewido (www.ewido.net/en/download) wants you to pay eventually , but if you leave the 'free' version running, you just miss out on some resident shields, meaning you have to run a scan manually.
I run them both, along with Webroot SpySweeper (paid version) and Zone Alarm (paid version) and I'm happy to say that I've never (knowingly!) been infected.
There's also some scary talk about root-kit viruses (virii?), and there are various apps which purport to look for these and kill them. However, none of them can get them all, as the very nature of root-kit viruses makes them undetectable. I use a freebie called RootkitRevealer from www.sysinternals.com, but it's quite technical and it only tells you what 'might' be a rootkit. Worth downloading though.

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

AVG is totally worthless. It is junk. I recommend antivir free edition. It is really the best one.

And for spyware and adware I would recomend Ad-Aware.
