All medication is considered as poison by the liver and some tablets, such as antibiotics and antidepressants take some breaking down. Alcohol is a poison and forces the liver to concentrate on breaking the chemicals down. Putting more pressure on the liver accelerates the breakdown of alcohol and negates the benefits of the medication - it is passed through the body without the drug getting a chance to reach it's target!. Since antibiotics have to be taken regularly and for the full course, you should give your body every chance for them to make the most impact! Please try to avoid alcohol when you are taking antibiotics. You might get a very uncomfortable gut and, if you really can't resist drinking alcohol (maybe another problem there) then don't forget some antibiotics can negate the use fullness of the contraceptive pill!

The VD Clinics of the 1950s and 1960s gave the somber and serious advice that alcohol should absolutely not be used while taking penicillin. But there were no significant chemical interactions between penicillin and alcohol. The real reason that this advice was given was for moral reasons, not pharmacological reasons. The medicos of the day were worried that alcohol would reduce the inhibitions of the sufferers, and that, while under the influence, they might get a little "frisky" and pass on their infection to another person, before the penicillin had a chance to cure the sexually transmitted diseases.

Mind you, alcohol can put an extra load on your liver and immune system, can impair your judgment, liberate aggressive tendencies, reduce your energy state - and can be associated with staying up late, behaving recklessly, and not getting all the rest that your body needs to heal itself. So half a glass of an alcoholic beverage of our choice would be fine with most antibiotics.

The alcohol blocks the effect of the antibiotics so the medicinal effect is not there. Because antibiotics are given for a specific period of time, if you drink in the middle of the course, you waste the ones you already took and the ones you will take because you have interrupted the dosage. Wait till you have taken ALL the antibiotics, then you can drink your little heart's desire.

You WILL kill the antibiotics!!! You may not kill all of them but will severely weaken their effect. This could make your infection WORSE, and possibly untreatable. People who do not take their antibiotics properly, either stopping early or drinking, are extreme dangers to the public health, not to mention their own. This is how many diseases become resistant to treatment. Just finish your treatment, wait a couple days for good measure, a celebrate your drunken *** off. If you fail to clear your infection, you will have to take harsher antibitoics with more side-effects. If you are already on a strong antibiotic, like Pinicillian, and you screw up, you may never get well again. You may also infect others and create a superform of the bacteria. I have used anti-biotics for both Lyme's Disease and Malaria (twice). It sucks not drinking, but imagine never being able to drink again because you are eternally sick. Also your liver and kidneys may be more sensitive while on anti-biotics. You may cause them extra damage as well. I am well informed on the issue, and though my american liberty side know better, I think it should be a crime to start antibiotic treatment and not finish, or damage the effect. It is a SERIOUS social health risk, and one of the number one reasons disease treatment gets more difficult. PLEASE FINISH YOUR MEDS AND STAY HEALTHY DURING TREATMENT!!!!

Some antibiotics eliminates through the liver. Liver's function also is to do some detoxifications including detoxication of the alcoholic beverages. The effect of the antibiotics will take more long time due Tue "blocking" liver's detox function.Because of this reason you should not take more than one or two drinks.I would advise you if you decide to have more you have to delay the next dossage of the AB.But better way is: Not drink strong alcoholic drinks

It will negate the effects of the antibiotics, as though you aren't taking them at all. But, if you have been taking them for a week (the antibiotics), they should have already started doing their job. If you are going out drinking, don't waste your time (or money) on taking the drugs.

No, it's not sensible, the alcohol will stop the antibiotic working effectively, and your infection won't be cured, may even allow the bug to spread or get worse.

the alcohol will cancel out the last tablet you take before drinking but the effects of the antibiotic will resume when you take your next tablet (if you finish drinking by then)
