What is Labor Day to you?

Question

If you are off, do you use Labor Day for rest, (chillin', relaxing, BBQ, doing absolutely nothing) or do you use Labor Day for labor, (fixing the car, cleaning the house, fixing around the house, gardening, lawn care, doing overtime at work).

Please answer> Rest or Labor then explain how you do either.

I would say it is rest for me, as my birthday party always falls on Labor Day weekend. So I get to rest and watch everyone fall down!

Labor-

I have worked for what seems every Labor Day since I was old enough to actually work. The name seems fitting enough doesn't it? To me its the same as any other day of the week, with the only exception being that the people I work with are just that much lazier on a day entitled "Labor" Day. Besides, its a time and 1/2 holiday. More money, more stress, no administration. How could you go wrong? I hate the hospital..... What I wouldn't give for an ice cold beer and some BBQ right about now.

I just got off work now I need to do the BBQ so I don't know where the rest is because I have 6 kids to deal with being there's no school today but I love every minute of it. It's all good Have a safe Labor Day everyone

Labor Day is a day of rest and it should be for all. Close up the stores, etc. and let everyone enjoy a BBQ, family time, sleeping in, a good book, or whatever their heart desires. Overtime!? Please.......Americans work too much. Look at other countries. They have many holidays, they truly rest on Sunday, and they take month long vacations. What's the point of working so hard if you can't take time to enjoy the simple things in life. So everyone, take the day off, eat some good food, and enjoy the day with your family and friends!

Labor -
In mind's eye of many people, Labor Day is the end bracket of summer (the start bracket is Memorial Day). So this is the day to get turned around to face fall -- clear out the spring clothes from the closet, bring in the sunscreen left out by the pool, balance the checkbook. Lots of odds n' ends to do that somehow did not get not done on weekends in the summer, but can't wait until the next "catch-up day." There will be some shopping, but it will be little stuff, like certain size screws, duct tape of a certain color or a button to match the others on an autumn sweater. It's not a whoopee type day, but there is a certain satisfaction if at least some of the things were done!

Labor. All though it was an overall fun day up at the Air Force base, we still had work to do. We had to get a couple of the Presidential Flight plains ready for some of the state senate people to take off tomorrow. Which means us totattly dissasembling the body of the plain and checking everything and also running diagnostics. Ordering fuel for the morning etc.. We had a little cookout outside of the hanger, but nothing to extravagent, since we had to put in well over 12 hours to finish 3 planes with 8 guys. Most of the base was off for the day, but we get tomorrow off to rest after the planes leave. So, overall it was labor, but some fun was incorporated within it since we all became close friends, and we can listen to music and hang around for a bit before and after shifts.

Labor Day weekend -- the last official weekend of the summer. It contains some work; chores and the like, but also contains as much playing as can be packed into it. This year was a Sat AM of chores and an afternoon of kiting and playing on the beach. Sun. some gardening and an afternoon at the movies. Mon. washed the windows outside of the house, cleaned the dinning room carpet, and a swim and BBQ party for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Work hard -- play harder.

Rest and Labor: slept in this morning, worked in the yard (I love to garden so this doesn't really feel like work), do some house cleaning, play in the pool with kids, BBQ and we'll end the day with an evening bike ride. Just the right balance so I feel like I got something done but got to relax and enjoy the day too.

Well, Ho Ho Ho, when you're retired, Labor Day is another day when family and friends usually are "also off work" but for them it's not because they have no work to go to. So when I'm out and about on Labor Day, people look at me and think, "hey, he's a little older (68) but he's probably just "off" on Labor Day". So that's why you should mingle on Labor Day ---do some events ---chow down with family --stop at the Mall --for that day, normally a weekday, you're one of the "Labor Force" albeit the Labor Force has a day-off. After all, vacation days, special days and just good old regular days are best served by you making the most of them, however that may be. Because if you don't, no one else will.

I had to labor on Labor Day. I work in a large greenhouse and the plants don't take a day off from growing and needing water. I did get into a water fight with one of my bosses and lost - leaving work soaked to the bone haha :)
After work I drank a couple beers and went and rode my horse for the first time in ages - that felt nothing short of wonderful.
Beautiful day though - everything is still green here and the sky was a most beautiful blue scattered with clouds so...
Not too shabby of a day after all :)

Unfortnately, Labor Day is no longer a free gift to the working men and women of this country unless, of course, you work for the state or federal government. Almost all other places of business are open for, just that ... business, which means, the majority of workng men and women are ... working.

In days long past, businesses were closed. And whether or not we chose to relax or catch up on home improvements and chores, the choice was ours to make. So the questtionn should not be whether or not we are relaxing or puttering around the house, the question should be, "Were the heck did Labor Day go?"
