My husband lost his job 5 weeks ago and he applyed for unemployment benefits the same day.He got a letter stating he qualified and telling him what his benefit amount was he claims or re applys every 2 weeks.It has been 5 weeks and he still has not recieved his benefits.So does anyone know how long this takes before he gets a check?We live in Florida by the way.

well here in California you start to get checks every 2 weeks after your third week out of work..

Well, he should get a check rather quickly. 5 weeks seems like a long time. Normally, it's no more than 2 weeks, unless an employer is contesting the right for him to receive the unemployment benefits.

One, i would have him contact the UE office to ensure all the information is correct, like mailing address and SSN.

Secondly, he might want to touch base with his old employer to see if they just might be contesting his benefits.

Both of these might get him pointed in the right direction to resolve.

Dont know about Flordia but in California it can take up to 3 weeks. Best bet is to go back and see what is the delay. When your money is involved then get on the ball and call someone. If your unemployment is anything like ours then just call from home cuase the wait is just as long. Good luck.

He needs to call the unemployment office, they will help him.
