Theoretically, if the ground was smooth enough, you were high enough and your eyesight was sharp enough, you could see the curvature of the Earth's surface. However, I doubt most people can see it from the top of even the world's tallest buildings; it's just plain not that high up.

I havn't been on the roof of a tall building before, but, I have been in a plane and I'm not sure if it's an optical illusion or not, but I believe I could see the curvature of the earth just barely.

You can deduce the curvature of the Earth.

Go to Chicago. Go to the beach. Look south. You see lake.

Go up in the Sears Tower. Look south. You see Gary, Indiana.

Why can you see more the higher up you go? Either the atmosphere thickens in ways that are not otherwise measurable, or the Earth is round.

In the old days, before they had tall buildings, people noticed that when ships sailed out to sea, the bottoms disappeared before the masts did. That happens for the same reason: the Earth is round.

Yes and you don't need a tall building. Its called a horizen.
The horizen is further out if you are on the top of a tall building because you are looking down.

No, it's more like you can see the world ending... the lack of seeing more earth on the horizon is the evidence for the curvature.

It actually works better on the ocean.

I think the fact that the land disappears at some point implies that it goes down beyond your sight. Scratch that. It only really makes sense on the ocean...
