I really love the name Elle for a girl. I think it's beautiful yet cute yet sophisticated. The problem is, my name is Emily and everyone calls me Em. My concern is that everyone would call me Em which reminds me of the letter M and everyone would call her Elle which reminds me of the letter L. Would it be weird to name a girl Elle if people call me Em?

Well if you name her Elle then you will be stuck thinking her name as L....if you can't see around it then I recommend you look for another name. It would suck if you named her then when she is a few weeks old decided you don't like it. Maybe find a new name and use Elle as a middle name. For example:

Joelle: This name has elle in it.....Joelle Lauren

Brianna Elle
Lexus Elle
Kimora Elle
Kimbra Elle
Mix it up, you might find a name that fits her perfectly.

Name your daughter what you want. Elle is a very pretty name and there is nothing wrong with it. Your real name is Emily not Em. No one will say anything and if they do so what.

I think Elle is a really pretty name. Don't worry about people calling you M and her L. I bet people won't even think about the irony. Unless you point it out of course. But I think its a pretty name and you should ignore what other people say.

I don't think it's weird. Kind of a short name though, maybe you should name the girl a longer name and use Elle as her nickname.

Maybe Brielle, Giselle, Janelle, Gabrielle, Annabelle, Noelle, Aubrielle, Brielle, Arielle, Isabelle, Eleanor, Elinor, Eleanore, Eleanora, Elinore, Nellie

No I don't think it's weird at all, I really like the name Elle and if you really like the name too it shouldn't bother you if other people think it's strange

I see no problems with it. Elle is a beautiful girl's name and as long as you don't have the same nickname, it's fine.

They say babies pick their own names. Elle is a beautiful name and it may be kind of a "special connection" to have with your daughter for your names to be similar. My daughter and I have similar names and everyone we are introduced to find the similarity charming.

If you like it, go for it!

"Elle McPhearson" is a very famous model. There is even an "Elle" magazine. It's an okay name and not too common!

No the baby will call you mommy not Em. After you have a baby people usually forget you even have a name they will start to call you Ella's mom!
