Do your homework and research all that you're looking at. Most home businesses require a start up fee because you're getting products to get you started. Some have options on how you pay the start up fee without products for very little to nothing. It just depends on what you're looking at and what you feel you'd believe in. Be sure you know your "WHY" you're wanting a home based business because it will make all the difference in the world for you on how you work it. Read the book "The Business School" by Robert Kiyosaki where he explains how you can get on the other side of the cash flow quadrant.
Research every business you're looking at with the BBB (better business bureau) as well to check for legitimacy, complaints, ratings and praises, etc.
Good luck on your endeavor!

Very few of the answers you received contain actual answers for how to have a home job without expense. That's because it's practically impossible - it takes money to make money. I recommend you take a course offered by your local municipality or county for "How to start your own business". It will at least explain the process to you. They (your local Economic Development Authority) will work with you, setting up a small business loan, writing business plan, etc.

If you really don't want to spend any money upfront, then you can always sell stuff on ebay or ubid. At least e-bay has some dubious categories where things like "haunted jewelry boxes" are being sold. Guess there'll always be enough idiots to sustain ebay.

Finally, try craigslist.org. I'm sure you can find small jobs such as cleaning, landscaping, decorating, or babysitting - by either replying for a posting or doing one yourself.

qtpie: No, you cannot get something for nothing. The bottom line here is, the people promising just such a thing, make it very tough for me to do my job. Any legitimate company will have an initial start up cost. The important thing is, you have to ask the right questions. My wife and I have worked for a great company for 6 years, that is not MLM, and we had an initial start up cost, which we earned back in the first 2 months. If you would like to know what kind of questions to ask to weed out the scams, please contact us through our website at cyf.makemoreathome.com. I would be pleased to help you. Thanks, Neil M.

This is for people that are serious and who don’t want to be misled as we have tried many things and have found a company that has been around for 21 Years and pays you to advertise for them. My wife and I just started and are doing well. It is not an MLM company and no selling, no deliveries or stocking product. My wife’s aunt has been working with this Company (Melaleuca) for a little over 3 years and home schools 3 kids and makes $9,000 a month. It is a 500 Inc company and the CEO is on the U.S. Chamber of commerce board. I can arrange a web cast with my wife’s aunt for you and you can decide by yourself and WE WILL help you be successful. It is an honest Win Win.
If you want to see a web cast (presentation) from your home let me know and I will arrange it as that truly is the way to see all about Melaleuca. Have you heard of it. We have just gotten started with my wife's aunts help as it is a team effort and it is fun. Just a quick F.Y.I. 8 out of 10 people that see the web cast join the company and 95% of the people that join re-order product each and every month. Let me know when you are ready and we will set up the web cast.

I have been mostly a stay at home dad because I have been out of work due to the Michigan economy. I am back in college now, and many of my peers are also stay at home dads or at least the primary care giver. Much of the great recession has hit men hard as construction, manufacturing, technology, and financial industries tend to be male dominated and these industries have been hit particularly hard. I love my kids, but I have done this out of necessity. I would much rather work and I hope to be gainfully employed very soon.

Go there, enter in your information so you can see the video, and it explains it all from there. I can walk you through the process step by step if needed just to make sure you are successful. (Please keep in mind; this is NOT a get rich quick scheme.) In my opinion, the best thing about this is that it doesn’t require a high startup investment. (Considering you can start for free). I definitely recommend test driving it. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on yahoo messenger (spongemaster11). I'd love to give you more details! Hope This Helps and Good Luck!
