There are two theories, there is global warming and will only get worse because of mainly man-made pollutants. The second theory is that we are only in a cycle of a normal weather pattern and the average temperature will decrease. Already this year, Austria I think, is having colder than normal temperatures. Take your pick I guess, but the temperature has only gone up about one degree the past 10-20 years.

Global warming is an observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans. Part of this increase may be due to natural processes, and would have occurred independently of human activity. The remainder is due to a human-induced intensification of the greenhouse effect. The increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing and agriculture, and other human activities, are the primary sources of human-induced warming. The natural greenhouse effect keeps the Earth about 33 °C warmer than it otherwise would be; adding carbon dioxide to an atmosphere, with no other changes, will make a planet's surface warmer.
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide have increased nearly 30%, methane concentrations have more than doubled, and nitrous oxide concentrations have risen by about 15%. These increases have enhanced the heat-trapping capability of the earth’s atmosphere. Sulfate aerosols, a common air pollutant, cool the atmosphere by reflecting light back into space; however, sulfates are short-lived in the atmosphere and vary regionally. ( Global Warming Info)
Effects of Global Warming:
*Heat waves and periods of unusually warm weather
*Ocean warming, sea-level rise and coastal flooding
*Glaciers melting
*Arctic and Antarctic warming
Secondary Effects of Global Warming:
*Spreading disease
*Earlier spring arrival
*Plant and animal range shifts and population changes
*Coral reef bleaching
*Downpours, heavy snowfalls, and flooding
*Droughts and fires

I think that we are trashing our planet, but I'm not really believing the global warming thing. At some point in our planet's history, there were glaciers. They melted and it had to be pretty hot for that to happen. I think it is a natural course for our planet and I don't know if anyone can predict what is next. I also don't think we can do anything about it. Just my opinion.
