My computer is running out of hard drive space in the partition where I installed my system files. The hard drive has plenty of free space available in the second partition (I under estimated). I don't want to go the route of re-installing my OS and adjusting the partitions that way, as I will loose programs that I need every day to get my job done, and my employer, who is 100 miles away is the only one that can re-install them.

I don't want to spend too much money on a partitioning program because I plan on purchasing Vista, but I just need something to get me over till then. I've already cleaned out everything I can, but I need more. PLEASE HELP I HAVE 286MB LEFT:(

I would only use Partition Magic ...which was bought by Norton (Symantec). I see you don't want to spend alot of money, so you might want to try Partition Logic which is suppose to be free and advertised as an alternative to Partition Magic.

I have not used it as of yet.
I hope this helps you cut the corners you want to cut!

Assuming that you have administrator rights and that your running Windows XP heres how to make use of the unpartitioned drivespace.
Right click My computer and select Manage.
You should now have Computer Management on.
Find Disk Management and you will be shown a list of drives.
Right click on the empty space on a drive NOT any of your primary partitions.
Select Create New Partition and got for an Extended Partition.
Then follow your on screen instructions.
Once you've done that you can move all your useless and old files across to the new partition freeing up the one your OS is on.

You should now be able to keep your OS and important programs on one drive while having the other drive fill up with your all important files.

first dude, what you asking is imposible to add more space without deleting your partition and reinstall OS.

what you can do is.
1. clean up your system. temporary files.
2. compres only Program files, do not touch Windows files.
3. if you have another partition install all your program files to that partition that is not OS.

write me again if this do not work

Well, if you've used up your whole hard drive, then you are screwed. But you can use the disk management to partition your drive. I'm assuming you have xp, right click on my computer and select manage. From there you can select disk management. I'm sorry, but from that point on I can't really remember what to do....it's been so long since I have done it. I hope that at least gives you a start.
