Is the same punishment for a verbal threat and a physical threat?

Any kind of threat against the president either verbal, mail, email or telephone, regardless of if it is carried out or not is punishable by five years in prison. It is more if it actually carried out.

Better just not to do it.

I knew someone who was in junior high after 9/11, when everything was going wrong.. he started talking about assassinating the president, just as a joke (or fantasy, I don't know)

then the FBI came to the school to interrogate him. They treated him nicely enough, but still, scary

I think it's illegal.

I mean, I know it's illegal to threaten anybody, but it might also be treason or something along those lines.
