There are more than two. Slot, phillips, robertson, torx, and posidriv to name a few.
Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages in the situation it's used. Slots for example, don't stay on the screw driver very well and are rarely used in places where the screw hole is hard to get to.

Different situations call for different screws. Slotted you can't always get the torque you need and phillips can strip from time to time.
THere are actually three types of screws but you use an "allen" wrench for the third.
