I have an elementary education degree. Last year I couldn't get a job so I was a teachers assistant. Now the school year has started and i still dont have a job. I was offered a preschool teacher position and I told them I would take it but i still havent done the paperwork so its not definate. The same day a principal emailed me to see if i wanted to interview with them. I can't decide if I should take the preschool job and be safe and go ahead and start working...or if i should wait and see if i get this teaching job or another teaching job. They hire a lot of people after 10 days and it has been 5 days...the main thing is that i want to teach...but i know its really stressful and i dont feel prepared and preschool wouldnt be near as stressful at least this one wouldnt. any advice would be most appreciated!

Elementary! I don't think I could handle all the problems with preschool....overbearing parents, toilet training, whining, crying....ahhH!!!! I enjoy teaching content and feel I get more out of teaching 7 and 8 year olds how to read and write. That's just me though....thank God there are people who prefer preschool!

my mother is having the same problem. For money, she is staying as an elementary teacher. But since she cant find any positions at the moment, she is going to be a sub. Keep looking, but if you can find positions to fill untill you get a class in an elementary school, it sounds like a better deal. Good Luck.

If you are looking to make a career out of teaching, perhaps pursue the job that offers a tenure-track position...once you are tenured, you can switch to other tenure-track jobs and I think that they consider the time you spent in other districts...I am assuming you attended college so that you could be a teacher, maybe speak with the person in charge of ed placement for some more insight.

If you were already offered the preschool position go ahead and accept it. You will have the chance to start fresh with younger individuals and help to mold them into something new. Feel honored to help start off these children to the real world!

The elementary school is a better deal. It is more credible than a preschool for later in your career. It will be easier to get a job later. You have to start somewhere but if your foundation is good you will have a solid career to stand on. Good luck and thanks for being a teacher.

I love little children but a whole classroom ful of them might be a bit much you are probably better off with an elementary group...they will be able to follow direction a lot better than a preschooler.....

Maybe you can do some job shadowing to see whether you would like the job. My mom did some shadowing for chemistry teaching at my school. Although they didnt have a job opening, she now teaches at a college. You may find you like one better than the other, or hate both! You never know unless you try it.

Hmmm!

Have you thought about what an incredible opportunity to teach pre-schoolers is?

You could be the one who turns the future of our planet into a paradise by teaching their young minds!

I wish you well and I know you will make the right choice.

Have fun but be safe.

Preschool. They are still enough in awe of adults that they don't talk back as much.

the preschool kids have a shorter attention span so you don't have to do some activity for very long.
