He came to our city two days ago, for a FUNDRAISER, not official state business. Yet, they shut down the interstate for about seven miles, from the airport to the hotel downtown where the fundraiser was taking place. They did the same when he left the fundraiser to go back to the airport. It snarled traffic all afternoon. Why is he allowed to do that for political business. It's understandable if he's on official business, but I do not appreciate getting stuck in traffic for three hours so that he can go raise money for his fellow politicians.

I am not singling out Bush, I am talking in general. I realize that Clinton did the same thing, all Presidents do it. I am just wondering why they are allowed to disrupt an entire city in the name of politics.

Unfortunately, everywhere the president goes is considered official business, whether he's attending a meeting of the World Bank or stumping for the next election.

Security has gotten tighter over the years because of threats to the president. President Kennedy was shot and killed. Someone attempted to assassinate President Ford. President Reagan was wounded outside a Washington, D.C., hotel not far from the White House.

Add in all the terrorist activity -- car bombs, suicide bombers, roadside explosives -- and, whether you like the president or not, you have to agree he'd be a good target for some crazy person with a gun or a bomb.

Plus, if Bush got assassinated, would you like to have Cheney in charge? (Some say he is already, but that's another discussion.) I say we should keep Bush as safe as possible, even if that means a few traffic jams.

And BTW: You think you have it bad where you live? Try Washington, D.C. It happens here a few times every week.

first of all, with Lieberman and a pair of Republicans sponsoring it, it fairly is hardly "bi-partisan," through fact Lieberman is hardly a Democrat. Secondly, it fairly is chilling and human beings might desire to pay interest. although, thirdly, the administration isn't endorsing this invoice. The DHS is affirming that the 1934 Communications Act already supplies the president great emergency potential. It says if there's a "risk of conflict," the president might grab administration of any "centers or stations for cord verbal replace"--archaic wording that even with the reality which could probably sweep in broadband carriers or cyber web web pages.

I understand the annoyance. Bush was just here a few days ago and they were announcing street closures for days ahead of time. However, in this age of whack-os what choice does the President's protectors have but to take over whatever city the President visits?

Several years ago, I was working in Grand Rapids, MI. They had the opening of the Gerald Ford Presidential Museum. FOUR presidents were there. That really shut things down. It is the Secret Service who makes the call. Thank to the likes of JohnWilks Booth, Squeeky Fromm, etc.

Stop and think about that question for a mintute. It has nothing to do with official or unofficial business. It has to do with safety of our president. Haven't you heard of JFK? Sometimes, you just have to say, whatever and just take it. Let some things slide, because some things are more important, you know? Instead of getting all mad, just say, what ever.........Smile....LOL...

This is standard practice by the secret service to keep him safe from assassination attempts. They do the same for the pope and other heads of state.

SORRY, but it happens.

They would do that for any president. And, by the way, it probably wasn't all his idea. Your local PD was probably in on it too, dumb a**!
