Black Metal, my favorite genre. Though some of my bands are blasphemed as not being black metal or REAL black metal thats what I mostly listen to. A very under appreciated genre of music and deffinently not mainstream. How does one save something that is dying? OR am I just misinformed? I live in the G*d Da**d BIBLE BELT! the majority of people here hate that music (or metal in general) and even hate me for listening to it. I'm not saying the whole bible belt is like that, but here where I live there's Satanism (anything other thatn Christianity) is frowned upon by many. OOPS I lost my train of thought... But I'm not sure I don't get to hang around with other people who like ....metal! I guess I want info. concerning the REAL current standing of the genre and I guess I want to get to know those who like it as well.

Also suggest some bands. :D

You answered your own question when you said: "Though some of my bands are blasphemed as not being black metal or REAL black metal thats what I mostly listen to."

It's the Black Metal FANS who are killing the genre by getting caught up in mindless arguments over what "real" Black Metal is. Likewise turning on bands that try to evolve, or even have a little mainstream success (like Cradle or Dimmu), and finally treating new fans like intruders who are not "real" fans because they weren't there at the beginning. If a genre doesn't expand or evolve, then it stagnates and dies. A band wanting to improve their level of playing and writing is NOT a sell-out--a band who is playing at exactly the same level after 10 years without any evolution definately IS. But the Black Metal underground so stubbornly resists change that they are stifling the genre.

All genres suffer from these attitudes, especially in metal, but the Black Metal crowd seems to take things to almost absurd extremes. Listen to what you like, like what you listen to, and ignore all the other bullshine, and black metal will survive just fine:)

Well I'm a christian, but I sure as hell love metal! Where I come from, everything is rap and hip hop, and I'm an outcast because I hate that crap. Anyway, I know that metal is dying, but if you save Cd's and tapes of it, and pass it down through generations, then at least it would live on in your family, and maybe they'll spread the word around that Metal music is AWESOME!

My favorite metal bands are Black Label Society, Cradle of filth, and Metallica of course!

Who knows, maybe Metal will become extremely popular again one day, but if it doesn't, at least I will still have good memories about it. Except if I get Alzheimer's or something like that...

Strange but religous young people are often fans of black metal. Do express(clothing etc) that u like the metal music and you will meet lots of metal fans. The rock stations www.kinkfm.com airs a great rock show with lots of alternative black metal on friday nights. It is aired on Dutch time so that's 8 hours earlier for you. The show starts at 20.00. Do not worry, Rock will never die. Gr . Brendstetter

Best thing to do if you think a genre is getting a little old, is to listen to other genres for awhile. Then go back to the aforementioned genre, and listen away, content in the knowledge it no longer bugs the crap out of you.

To keep it from dying, fully document all aspects of it. Then it will never die, as Neil Young says.
