In medieval times the knives carried for protection started to be used at the banqueting tables of the nobles to cut up the meat and fruit as they ate. As we all like to imitate our peers it became popular as cooking and table maners evolved forks were introduced to keep the user cleaner and separate the classes once again.
Peasants and lower classes eventually striving to be the same as their peers took up the habit of using forks.
What goes around comes around and there is no hierarchy only us peasants chucking hot wings over our shoulders and mitt fulls of fries down our throats. The Asians well they will suffer McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken too....given time

Just the way things were done. Some did not have the knife and fork so they used what they had which was some sticks and they learned to use them very well. In the west, we had more influence from Europe so used the knife and fork. It began with a plain stick that was sharpened on one end to poke the meat and then eat it that way but later when they found it was not so messy to cut it with a knife and by that time the fork had been invented and was in more use so they put them together. And from there it evolved to what we have today.

Eastern people, lets say from China were isolated (by choice) from the rest of the world up until abou the late 1800s. They had been using chopsticks and were not introduced to forks and knives. My mom is chinese (as am I) and she says chopstick are easier to use because you can use them to cut thing, pick up things, and jab things. You would need to use a fork and knife to do these. Forks and knives may have been used by western cultures because of their diet, which included lots of meat. In the Asian culture, meat is not such a focus of the meal. Therefore, there was no real need to cut up tough pieces of food.
Hope this helped.

I guess the Asian's used whatever they had originally to eat with and that was sticks - so chopsticks and the Western's used forks/spoons because we had them crafted out of metal!@

I've had this conversation before. I live in Korea and they say that using chopsticks takes more skill - but you should see them trying to use a knife and fork!!! I think knife and fork users require more skill because we have to co-ordinate two hands to eat....!!!!!

Some research has concluded that more than 30 joints and 50 muscles as well as related nerves are involved in the use of chopsticks - a phenomena that exercises the nervous system and increases mental acumen.

i don't use a knife and fork. i always wash my hands before meals (this is mainly a thing that kids do) and find it easier just to pick something up rather than use a knife and fork

I even have now no longer studied the socialization on China plenty recently. even with the shown fact that i will help you recognize that i think of they could win in a warfare with us. for purely some aspects: 2 billion persons in the inhabitants so the army is often on the least 10 million deep. What you pronounced approximately them economically and status on my own so that's now no longer like their financial device must be drained whilst production weapons and scuffling with a warfare. And its alluring that they have a solid working technique to get concerns around to human beings being a communist u . s . a .. I haven't any theory if Germany or all of us else could returned them up, yet status on my own they could reek havoc. The U.S. could elect 3 or 4 diverse international places to artwork tension up with us to wrestle them and win. additionally, they have nukes comparable to we do.

It is rather like a term in biology that explains why birds, bats and insects all have wings and all use them for flying but they came about by different means. The term is divergent evolution. You work with what you have on hand.
