The problem is that they are so arrogant. They think they can beat everyone and then when they cant they just don't do the sport anymore or they come up with a load of excuses. After all they take after their leader...... jeez hope i dont get in trouble for that!

1) The basketball that the rest of the world plays is moderately different from the form played in the US, so that's an disadvantage for the US every time international tournaments come around.
2) On any given day anyone can win, right? That's the great thing about sport. If you remember, the Greek national team also pulled off a major coup when the won Euro 2004 a few years ago. Greek football is not known as being even good, much less dominant. Even a dominant team can lose on any given day. In the recent World Cup, the Brazillian team that everyone thought would win hands-down (no pun intended) didn't even make it to semi-finals. I'd say that the US basketball team is about like the Brazillian football team: they're the team that no one wants to play, but on the day you play them, you're especially motivated to play hard and win.
3) I've never heard Americans claim that the US would soon or easily become dominant in football. Maybe you're interacting with different Americans than I am, but I've never heard that. That said, the US team is certainly respectable, and it will continue to improve.

First of all, I've never heard any Americans say that we would become dominant in soccer because, frankly, we really don't care about soccer like the rest of the world does.
Second of all, as for all of you that say Americans invented basketball, you're wrong-a Canadian invented basketball.
Third of all, not all Americans are fat and lazy and arrogant, as was said in a previous posts. It's true, Americans are fatter than other countries, but it's not enough people to impede on our sports performances. As for the arrogant statement, I don't where you're getting your information. I guess that's just the stereotype of a typical American.

Well my friend here is the deal. America is a DIVERSE country. And sports is no exception. We play every sport here, from football to baseball to hockey to soccer ect ect ect. When we grow up, we dont focuse soley on one, we play alot of differant sports. This is both good and bad because it allow us to try alot of new things, but doesnt allow us to become the ultimate experts in one sport.
Now in Europe and many other countries soccer is end all be all of their sports. In Canada and Russia its hockey. If Americans focused soley on sport we would be extremely dominant in it.
So do you see my point. We play many sports very well, but other countries can beat us sometimes because in they might focus on just that sport and no other..
True no?
