My wife is 37 and doesn't know how to drive. Of course, she is Peruvian and driving there is much more expensive. Mass transit down there is cheap, so there really was no reason for her to learn. Now, she is a little nervous about driving, but she is having problems getting her learner's permit because she cannot pass the written test to get one. Indiana is a little strange about getting a learner's permit. She is frustrated abou it because she does not want to rely on me all the time to take her places.

Not sure why all three children wouldn't want to. Some people decide not to drive out of fear, from many different things. The fear could be from an accident they may have been in, or just in general fear due to things such as news and other media.
My husband has never had his licence and he will be 25 in a month. The reason, as far as I have concluded, for him not having gotten his drivers licence is simply that he was never interested in cars and driving growing up, so he never bothered. He walked most everywhere before we got married. So basically, I just call him a hippie.
I also have a few friends who have never driven as well. One friend, I attribute this to her being simply lazy and incredibly co-dependent on her boyfriend. The other friend has always had a fear issue, which she has no idea where it comes from. She has tried many many times to learn to drive, but when she gets into a car in the drivers seat she literally freezes and cannot do anything, thus being quite unsuccessful with learning to drive.
So I guess the answer is that it is different for everyone, and you'd really just have to ask your children why they do not try to obtain their drivers licence. I know that doesn't answer your question, but I don't know your kids, you do.

where do you live?
If you live in a dense metro area (think Manhattan in the US, or the centre of any European or Asian city), a car is not really useful and introduces high costs on the budget.
Therefore some people may decide to do without one. And therefore, decide to not pass their drivers' license. Which makes perfect sense.
The only problem is, if they ever move, they may find themselves in a situation where they will need to drive regularly or even daily (think LA) and it is much more difficult to obtain one's driver license at an older age since the reflexes have become slower, and the mind is less flexible ;-)
Hope this helps

im 20 and up to know i havent gotten a learners permit and who knows, i might not even be driving.
getting a license means a lot of responsibilities. maybe they're scared to the big R. most of the time if you know how to drive people around you expect you to drive them somewhere.

Not everyone in the world wants to learn to drive.
I'm 18 and I sure don't. It costs a fortune and I need what little money I earn for important things.
Whats so terribly wrong with public transport anyway? Or walking??

I have a friend that is 28 years old and he is just scared to drive. You are in control of your own life and the lives of the people who are with you. If you think about it, its a scary thing.

My son (now 23) was the same - he felt it was too much responsibility to drive and he didn't feel ready. The other thing is if they get around without, there's no reason to worry about car, insurance, etc.

Maybe to escape the 10 billion cars clogging up the roads these days and ruining our ozone layer. Congrats to them.

My sis wouldn't get her license until someone stopped driving her everyplace. She just didn't see a need.
Are you an anxious driver? They may be afraid to drive!
Blessed Be!
