Read Robert Kiyosaki's book called "The Business School". He explains that having a network marketing business is the best way to go along side with investing in real estate. It gets you on the other side (the positive side) of the cash flow quadrant.
If you choose a business you'd like to be in because you feel it's beneficial, make sure you set goals and know your "why" because it's extremely important. Why? Because it's the reason that makes you want to work the business to the point to where you can actually replace income (from a JOB) and walk away. You got to want it bad enough, and you've got to be willing to work it. Owning your own business won't run itself. If you have a big enough dream, anything is possible. Dream big and achieve it :)
I'll add... be SURE you do your research on any company you're looking at and also check with the BBB (better business bureau) for legitimacy, ratings, complaints and praises, etc.
Good luck on your endeavor!

The attitude would be positive as people would want to do a good job instead of the current screw everyone attitude.

P.S. Not everyone wants to start their own business.

Smiles,,,"Everyone"??? As in 9 plus billion of us?

I expect it could be competitive chaos.

The upside of it might be however, that we could return to a society that was more into the barter/trade system of living.

It would provide more jobs, perhaps boost the economy. Unless of course if they all started the same kind of business.
