Canada is a very large and diversified country. Each region is very different from the others, and so it is difficult to talk about Canada as a whole. I find people in Saskatoon (in Saskatchewan) very friendly, but I don't think I would like living there because it's not big enough for me, it's too flat, and it gets too cold in the winter. That's not to say you wouln't like it. I live in Vancouver. It's not so cold in the winter (we don't usually get snow, but there's a lot of rain). Vancouver is great because we're close to both the mountains and the water, and so you can ski in the morning and boat in the afternoon (or whatever else you like to do on the water). I have lived all over North America, and Vancouver is my favorite. However, in Vancouver the cost of living is very high. With the Olympics coming, the economy is booming, and so finding a job wouldn't be terribly difficult. My only other problem is that healthcare in this province leaves a little something to be desired. I have to wait 6 months to see a urologist. However, the cost of medical care here is a lot less than it is in the U.S. - I only pay $55/month, and if you are low income, you don't pay anything and still get the same services.

Overall though, Vancouver and the surrounding area (including Victoria) are great places to live. It was rated as the third top-rated place to live...it was only the cost of living that kept it out of the first place.

I like other parts of Canada as well. I have spent extensive time in Quebec City, and it is great, but if you don't speak French, this city would not be a good place for you to live.

I think that as a whole, Canada is a good place to live. I certainly prefer it over the U.S., but we do pay more taxes than the States. The people here are generally friendly, there are good social programs (although that is becoming less and less), and the quality of life is good. You can email me if you have more questions.

I hope I was able to help!

OK here is my extremely abbreviated short list of positive and negative about Canada:

Positive:
The best part of Canada is that it is not the US.
It's also a predominantly tolerant and accepting democratic society.
The natural beauty of the country is really wonderful.

Negative:
The present government is a super right-wing lapdog of the US Republican Party. Since you're from Britain think, Tony Blair only without the sophistication.
We (Canada) are geographically challenged. Our proximity to the US affects almost everything that happens in this country. We are 1/10 the size of the US (in population not geography) and so our cultural industries (film, TV, etc.) are always at a disadvantage, except in Québec where the francophone culture can thrive.

I am English and I emigrated to Vancouver. It is the most fantastic place in the World. The vista of the Rockies welcomes the start to my day. The weather is beautiful and the people are really friendly. It has been voted in as one of the top three places in the World to live. I can see why. We have gabulous beaches, gorgeous summers, snow skiing in the winter, a rural setting - trees everywhere which gives it a magical feel and the wilderness not more than an hours drive away. We have dolphins and Whales in our preverbial back yard. The cost of living is low and the standard of living is high. Of course we have our problems but no more than you would get in any large city and nothing which would make me want to exchange this for England. I addition we have a shortage of labor we are crying out for people to work, jobs of all sorts are going begging.

Why do so many people thing that Canadians don't speak English!? English is the predominant language in most of Canada. Quebec is the only province that is officially French and New Brunswick is the only province officially bilingual (English/French). Canada welcomes people of all nationalities. It's really a great place to live.

Absolutely friendliest people in any country I've ever been to including the UK. No litter - clean just like Switzerland. Beautiful sunsets and scenery, especially lakes and mountains.

Canadians not afraid to stand their ground against the opinions of their neighbor to the South and most are highly cultured and well-educated. Civic pride - just go to Victoria and you will see the most lovely hanging planter boxes full of flowers.

In short, I have no negative feelings about Canada whatsoever (and I'm from the States). Go for it, luv - Dellajoy's right!

My Mum emigrated to Canada and just became a citizen. She loves the entire country, but lives on the "Sun Shine Coast" north of Vancouver in BC, where the weather is moderated by the Japanese current. Great place to live if you don't mind some rain, (except in Summer).

A lot of Brits (I took that as English) live in Canada.
It is very nice, & I have been on both ends of the country, but missed the middle somehow!
Quebec wants to suceede I think, they are French speaking & will not bend...but, I have met very nice people on both sides.
The West is mountainous & beautiful, & the East has some really nice cities to do just about anything you want!
Montreal is one of my favorite cities in the world, it is clean & has all kinds of stuff going on at any time...after hours, go to St Denis, or St Catherine!
I like to visit Canada! A often as I can!

I went to school in Washington, just south of the border from British Columbia. We used to drive up to Vancouver on the weekends, and I love that city. It's beautiful, very liberal, and has fantastic weather. It's just cold enough that you get all four seasons (I'm originally from LA, seasons were a novelty) but the winters are pretty mild.

As for relocating there, I hear the taxes are pretty high, but I would imagine they're about on par with the UKs. We're a little spoiled with taxes in the US.

Canada is a great place. My wife is 1/4 Canadian and has family there. It is a slower pace than the US. That can take some getting used to. But the people are friendly and welcoming.

They have universal medical but it can take some time to get the surgury that you might need.

It snows alot. Bring your Boots and Parkas.
