I am going to err on the side of being liberal here. Size 20 +
The reason why I have stated a big size is due to having weighed up a few personalities of stage and screen in my minds eye and approximated what size I think they'd be.
I also like to think that as a woman I'd be allowed my curves and boobs. I am conventional in my thoughts that being too slim could mean being shapeless.
In my experiences with the men in my life they all prefer a woman to have some body to her, therefore a size 14, 16 and 18 are the best sizes to be.Indeed having a pleasant nature and personality also goes a long way. Nicki Chapman is a size 14 going on 16, and she is well loved.
Sizes 12, 10, 8 and 6 are just to thin.
In considering size you also have to look at height. If you were 5ft 10 and a size 10, you'd look like an anorexic beanpole or a skeleton with a skin graft. But if you were 5ft 10, and wore a size 16 you should be perfect. Unless you are the athletic type and have a manly build to you instead of a feminine one.
Plus size clothing starts at size 16 or18 or even 20, depending on manufacturer and plus size modelling starts at those sizes to.
In the Victorian era a woman over a size 8 or 10 was regarded as matronly. But then you'd be lucky in those days to survive the various ailments the Victorians' suffered and to reach your middle years let alone old age.
Anyone seen the life size model of Madame Tussaude?
The clothing industry has come a long way since then.

Quite honestly, in our society most people consider anyone with a dress size larger than an 8 to be fat. But what is fat? It's strange because I wear a size 11 yet I don't look it. Noone believes it they swear I could wear a 6 but im also a very tall girl. Fat is an opinion, which in my eyes I believe starts with anyone that can't fit into a size 12. Thats why plus size modeling starts at 14.

You cant say that anyone who is a 14 or a 16 is fat. It depends on the bone structure etc. I think if you are two dress sizes out with your normal size then you can be classed as fat. I am 5.2 and a small bone structure. I am a 10 and should be an 8 so one size over and i will consider myself as fat. right now i am just over weight.
These are UK sizes no idea about US sizes.

In this society, you can be a size 2 and some gossip blogger, entertainment show anchor, critical mother, "friend," jerk guy in high school, or any other number of people could call you fat. It's become a generic insult. If you have any body fat on you whatsoever, someone will call you fat. The mistake most people make is believing that lie when they hear it.
The rule of thumb I use on myself is if I can no longer shop at a "regular" clothing store and have to shop at a larger-size clothing store. But many people who shop at those large size stores are not necessarily fat either. It's a gray area.
Only a medical professional should decide if someone is truly overweight.

It varies, I have a couple of large friends and because they carry themselves well and dress for their size you would not label them fat but I think it has more to do with the dress sense and how one carries it! But I think if someone has to gauge by there dress size rather than their health then I think they need help.

How shallow some people are,(not you) it depends on height muscle tone and a million other things.
Personaly it depends on how I feel that day. today I'm carrying my wieght well, tomorrow when I'm trying to get ready to go out fattest in the world. At 5 foot over with muscle tone I am a 14 but not fat over weight if I was in a 16 I would be obese. but the same person that is 6 foot tall in the same size is skinny

I would check body mass index result, before going on dress size. Dress sizing is so unpredictable these days. A size 12 manufactured by one company could well be a 14 if made by another.

It depends on the person themselves. Marilyn Monroe was a size 16 but you would never say she was fat. I am a size 12, but i feel very fat cos I have put on a stone in 3 months.
