ive been back and forth for 2 weeks now on what to do. Im almost 22 and my vision is diminishing yearly...first i couldnt see well far away, now thats gotten worse and added not being able to see up close either!! I dont have a good eye insurance until the end of october, only a discount program...ive been debating if im wasting my time with glasses that i can only wear to drive, i tried contacts once and all they did was make my eyes itch and water constantly...i was think about laser surgery, i even went for a free consultation...im just debating because im a little weirded out about being able to see what they are doing while im having the surgery, and im afriad it wont be done right and ill need it again...the place i went to wants $130 for the inital pre-exam and approx $4000 for the entire surgery including check ups for a year. Is this worth it?? I cant stand not to see anymore! it hurts!

Well, I do have a couple of suggestions for you...
First off, I do think that it is really important for you to get another eye exam, especially if it has been a year or more since the last one. Make sure that you know your family ocular history (as far as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, etc.) I know it's very possible, but it's not completely common for someone your age to already be experiencing problems in your distance AND near vision!
Second, buying and wearing glasses according to Dr. recommendation is NEVER a waste of money! :) As far as the contact lenses go... did they give you complete instructions on inserting the lenses and making sure they weren’t inside out. It is true that some people just cannot tolerate contacts, but sometimes there is an easy explanation for the discomfort. There are many different types of contact lenses out there :)
Lastly, if your vision is changing as drastically as you say from year to year, a good Lasik surgeon wouldn't even deem you a good candidate at this time. Also, if you are having distance and near vision, there is a VERY good chance that even after the Lasik procedure, you could still need glasses! Lasik only corrects your distance vision, so you could be stuck wearing reading glasses after surgery!
Of course, Lasik prices vary greatly across the country, but $4130.00 seems really high to me. One very important thing to remember when you are "price shopping" though, is to make sure the places you call are giving you prices on the same level of technology. There are some lasers out there that are older models and they can charge lower prices for procedures on that type of equipment. Lasik is also probably not as scary as you think. You have a focal point you look at throughout the procedure, and it's over in about 7 minutes per eye. There is no pain involved, as you eye is totally numbed with eye drops. I would be happy to answer any additional questions for you~
Hope this helped!!

Lasik eye Surgery and Laser Eye surgery is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Eye surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your eye surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her Eye surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps
