It's a stupid marketing ploy. As if any scent (especially a light one!) is going to be detected outside the body- the idea is ridiculous. And dangerous- you can't go shoving chemicals up there!

Come on ladies, we know better!

Good question. Some women don't like a strong scent from scented tampons and they are some women want to cover up the smell (if any) of a period so lightly scented tampons will work for them.

I have no idea. Try to convince any women you know who use them to stop though. Scented underthings, like pantiliners, toilet paper, tampons and such can increase the likelyhood of infections or toxic shock syndrome (usually only associated with tampons).

Why do some women douche? Your body has its own cleansing system. Adding the extra fluid will most likely only move harmful bacteria farther up into the vagina. If a woman is smelly or icky, then she should see a doctor to clear up the problem.

i don't understand cologne smells with the help of call or smell, much less mutually. I in simple terms like it whilst a guy smells stable and clean. in the event that they walk with the help of and that i smell even though they are donning. yet whilst it rather is in simple terms too plenty, as in suffocating... not as friendly. yet yeah. toddler powder smells rather stable. it is the only smell i understand the call to, i like that.

Don't use them. The perfumes can cause irritation and problems. Reg. tampons are all you need.

It's a marketing ploy the same as with commercial tampons being bleached, it has to do with taboos surrounding menstruation and the idea of it being dirty as well as smelly. It's a vicious circle; menstrual taboos keep tampon manufacturers in business, so they play on those taboos by making whiter-than-white products and products containing fragrance to keep women in the mind-set that menstruation is a dirty thing. Women buy such products because they are concerned about normal vaginal smell, thing is however using tampons or any chemicals near or within the vagina will cause vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis, which in turn will in fact leave them smelling bad as often such bacterial infections cause a 'fish-like' smell.

Tampons themselves are bad for vaginal health because they give bacteria a place to comfortably multiply without the vagina being able to clean itself out as it would normally and cause vaginal splitting by soaking up vaginal discharge, they also leave fibres within the vagina that can also increase risk of infection – thus why infections such as bacterial vaginosis is so common with tampon users, and why TSS is so strongly linked.
Commercial tampons add to the risk by using unnecessary bleaching and chemical treatment to make their products whiter, this adds to risk because of the chemicals used, it does nothing else to the product other than make them more absorbent, which itself is also going to increase risk of TSS. In fact up until November 1997 they even went so far as to use chlorine gas bleaching, a by-product of which is dioxin a seriously toxic chemical, knowing this risk they carried on using this method purely to make tampons whiter.
Scented commercial tampons of course add to this risk even more because as with chemicals already in tampons the chemicals within scented tampons add to risk of infection and irritation by interfering with normal vaginal PH, and adding to the chemicals being absorbed into the body.

They had scented tampons in the US for a long time, we here in the UK got away from such products because for the most part we were ahead of the times thanks to people like the Women's Environmental Network making public the issues of TSS and dioxin from unethical tampon manufacturing methods. Many people believe this sudden influx of 'YOUR VAGINA SMELLS!' products comes from the increase in menstrual activism – a movement concerned with the heath, environmental and social issues behind menstrual options, informing people of the risks of menstrual options and all the menstrual options available. It is also believed that because safer menstrual options such as menstrual cups are becoming so well known and advertised on television, this is the tampon manufacturers fighting back to keep their customers by counteracting advertising and word of mouth on safe products by appealing to a new generation of young women.

There is a lot of history and politics behind it all, but in short their point is to play to menstrual taboos and women's insecurities about their bodies in order to keep their customer base.

I would say if you had a small odor you were trying to disguise, then use them. Personally, I don't recommend them anyway, but everyone differs!!!!
