Something that is homogeneous is uniform. Something that is heterogeneous is not uniform. Let's say that you have a glass of milk. You look at it and it is all the same white color so it is homogeneous. Then you pour in a spoon of chocolate syrup. Now when you look at it, the white milk is there but toward the bottom you can see the dark syrup. The glass of liquid is now heterogeneous. Then you stir it all up. It now is a light chocolate color all over. It is homogeneous even though it is not like it was at first.
The funny thing is that the milk originally was a heterogeneous mix of cream and watery milk. Then it was beaten together at the dairy so thoroughly that it does not settle into the two parts again. It is now homogeneous - and the process used is called homogenization.

Homegeneus mixtures, or more commonly, solutions, will allow light to pass through where as Heterogeneus will not allow light to pass through.
Some solution mixtures are:
1. Completely miscible -
Will mix together in any proportions.
Like alcohol and water.
2. Have limits:
called solubility –
Example: only a specific amount of sugar can be dissolved in a set amount of water…
sugar in coffee ...

These terms are adjectives so you don't say
" a homogeneous". And the spelling is thus. When you have a mix or a combination and everything is the same or uniform it's defined as homogeneous as opposed to heterogeneous(note spelling) when things are different.
For example, "homogenized milk" is the same throughout
even though it's cream and skim milk. A homosexual
relationship is where the partners are the same sex.
Heterosexual - different sex.

A homogeneous mixture mixes completely and has the same texture throughout. A heterogeneous mixture still has bits in it. For example: Homogeneous=plaster. Once you've stirred it, it all has the same texture and doesn't seperate out. Heterogeneous=lemonade. You still have the pulp.
