He is friends with my ex. He likes me, I like him. My ex wont allow it. Maybe one day when my ex no longer has feelings for me?

Okay, so lets put this in perspective......You are concerned about your ex.???? When I think of the title EX, I think of a person who has exited your life. For whatever reason you had both decided to not continue your relationship. He needs to move on and let you live your life.

Your ex won't allow? WTF is your ex doing, telling you whom you can associate with? You need an attorney and get a peace bond under your stalking laws.
Also, find the NRA and learn to shoot, and get a concealed weapons permit if allowed in your state. Women don't have to live in fear. Get as big a pistol as your wrist can handle. If you have kids, get a good pistol lock, but when you are home, have that sucker ready for defense. If you wear it around the house under your clothes, they can't sneak it out.
Women are the fastest growing group of gun owners. They tried for a while to exude moral superiority, but recently have realized they are safer with a gun.

Sometimes you just like who you like and if you really like someone you are free to date whoever you want. Now if you are not doing out of respect for your ex that is all up to you.
