When I'm sarky with someone and they say that, I like to reply 'yes, but it's aimed at the lowest form of life'. They don't like it, no sirree.

Sarcasm is the one of a lot, of lowest forms of wit in society. But the reason is probably because it's lazy, and usually used as insecure insults. The only problem I have with sarcasm is that it is only funny to the person teasing, and the person teasing is usually only doing this because they don't know how to communicate with people properly so they feel insecure and to make themselves feel more confident they make an insulting sarcastic remark, I just don't like people making others and themselves feel bad, and when one insults or makes a harmful comment then they feel a subconscious guilt, or when they are sarcastic often meaning negative then they release aggressive and stressful chemicals in their brain. Which cause them to feel energy drained, tired and less content in life and disadvantages their happiness and I also think this act is done only out of fear, therefore making these people feel less free to express themselves and have fun... So yeah sarcasm is really cool! (In case you couldn't tell I was being sarcastic.... Oh crap now I have just ruined this whole argument!)

Sarcasm is possibly the lowest form of wit because of the bitter undercurrent that fails to uplift. The twist or play is or can be clever and funny but the bottom line is at best a sad state of affairs, or an unpleasant truth.

I dont think it is the lowest form of wit, the problem is some people cant laugh at themselves however they find sarcasm very funny when its aimed at other people. Maybe you should just lighten up

I think it is because sarcasm is usually humour at someone else's expense. However, I would much prefer to have the lowest form of wit than none at all.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intellect. That's what my (very sarcastic) mother always said anyway.

Because it can be used or taken as an insult. For some, it is a defense mechanism. It really depends on how it is used. For those of us who can not find a damn witty thing to say, sarcasm is there.

But wit is the highest form of humour, so you're still pretty near the top of the comedy tree

It's because it's so easy to do - just say what you don't mean in a sarcastic tone, and there's the joke.. although I agree it's very funny sometimes.
