Well, then chances are you have a virus lol. And for Anti-Virus progams, heres what you do to get one. (If you dont already have one.) Go to google, click the "more" icon, and look for something called "Google Pack". Then you can download Norton Anti-Virus for free. Then just run that, and it will tell you if you have a virus or not, and if you do, it will tell you how to fix it. OR you can buy a virus program. A really good one is called PC-cillian Antivirus. Its made by Trend Micro. Hope this helps.

Go to Tweak XP. Follow their directions EXACTLY for your operating system. They will have you download free programs some of which are trial versions that will clean and secure your computer. It may take some time especially if you have dialup, but it is well worth the time for a clean machine.

Another tip is that whenever you are going to end a session online, empty your temporary internet files and history as many bugs that you may have picked up will be stored there.

You do not have a virus. You have a spyware. Virus scanners will not clean spywares. The people who installed the spyware pop up the message saying it is a virus so you will virus scan rather than spyware scanner. Then they popup ads offering to sell you the program you need to clean it off your computer.

Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections. All three programs are free.

I don't know what program you have that says you have a virus, but I suspect that it is also a fake pop up rather than a legitimate program. You don't have a virus, you have a trojan or spyware.

Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run Avast and Ewido in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it.

The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Either of these firewalls are free for personal use and stop unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. They are both fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

first if its not your virus scanner that is informing you about virus infection then its a message that appears on certain sites,we all get these now and again, but it would be a idea to scan your p.c with ewido anti-spyware(http://www.ewido.net/en/)
install the yahoo toolbar(http://uk.toolbar.yahoo.com/)with pop-up-blocker and anti-spy,and a program called lavasofts adaware personal(http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/),should stop all them nasty pop up messages ,
as with all anti-spyware software ,update them at least once a week
good luck

first and foremost, whatever antivirus you are using, uninstall it. second, download and install avast4home antivirus (free from http://www.avast.com)
third, after the install, dont reboot, run avast, and in the drop down window on the upper left of the controller select to "schedule boot time scan" make sure to go ahead and tell it under the advanced options to delete and allow delete or move, then reboot the computer. when the scan completes, having removed all viruses, go to http://www.safer-networking.org and download spybot search and destroy v1.4 run this program, make sure to update it completely, and scan your computer for adware/spyware. remove ANYTHING it finds.

this should help

also, make sure you are using a firewall.. zonealarm is free at http://www.zonelabs.com
