Verizon, Sprint (CDMA) data question.?

If someone is using a CDMA phone (such as Verizon or Sprint) to browse the internet or check their e-mail, can you receive a voice call or does it go straight to voice-mail?

My experience is that, while I'm mobile web surfing, voice calls get automatically routed to voice mail.
