If you are playing the do-re-me etc you are using the "western" diatonic scale (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_scale ) regardless of what instrument you are using.
Standard fretted guitars produce notes at the semi-tone interval.
Most people tune them to this scale but you can tune them and play them other ways.

Not really and yes at the same time. Do re me fa so la ti do are all degrees of the any major scale, but they are based on the scale, not the scale based on them. For instance if you are climbing the scale in in c the notes would correspond as follows

Re D
Me E
Fa f
so G
la A
ti B
do C

However if you were to do the major scale in G it would go as follows

G Do
A Re
B ME
C Fa
D Sol
E La
F# Ti
G Do

Yes you are right but don't treat it like that, treat guitar like your voice and let come what comes out. Otherwise you will not have any creative instinct
