Because every single human being on this Earth has Problems, & they like to seek answers for most of them, it makes them feel comfortable. I find this site as a very perfect way to get nowadays problems resolved. Im not talking about All the familiy matters you have. Yahoo Answers very useful i would day & There is no any other site like this. Very Convienient. Get used to it! :) -Dr.Doom

Because,
1. You are solving someone's problem or atleast a question/doubt
2. Atleast somebody is listening (i mean reading) to what ever you say.
These two thing will never always happens in an real conversion.

before yahoo. google has introduced this idea. but it was for cost every questioner has to pay some charge to the best answer selected by him only. and also charge can be fixed by the questioer only. depending on the particapents they will answer the question and best answer and cost is paid by the questioner.
Where as yahoo made this idea for free of cost. thus i think it is poppular.

Its popular because people like to stroke their Ego's, if it wasn't for the point and ranking system, no one would bother to write good answers!

It meets peoples overwhelming desire to help others. I guess for women it is the Nurturing thing, and, for us men, it is solving the worlds problems or telling others how to do it.

its popular because you can get answers to your questions ,and advice, and ask questions. plus the bonus you get points. although i dont know what the points are good for but i got some.
