The federal pension system was never opened to Confederate veterans. Southern soldiers eventually received pensions from the southern states, but this really didn't get going until the 1880's.

Lee died in 1870 so he never have received a pension from the South, either. After the War, Lee became President of Washington College in Virginia (now Washington & Lee), and earned his living as an educator and administrator.

I doubt it. It wasn't until Jimmy Carter was president that Robert Edward Lee was pardoned and restored to full citizenship.
Check and see if the Virginia Archives have any record of a pension for Lee.

I seem to recall that Lee passed away before pensions were approved by the various states.
