I think the popular trend is starting to wind down. Only the few who truly admire body art will continue to get them. The obligatory pop-culture tattoos will really start to wane soon. I'm talking about the little squiggly thing in the small of a girls back or an arm band tattoo on the guys. They lack originality or self expression which is the whole purpose of getting tattooed in the first place.

I think they are more popular, especially since Miami Ink and other tattoo shows have been on TV. I love them and am trying to decide on my next one! Tattoos have been around forever and I'm sure people will continue getting inked for a long time to come!
Also, (to littledarlin) I am in my 40's, very intelligent, and wasn't drunk when I had my tattoo, and I won't be drunk when I get my next one! I like them and that's all that matters!

It is not about popularity, if this is why you would consider getting one, then you shouldn't. Tattoos are a statement that you want to make to the world. You don't get one because it is cool. I have two, and both of them I have no problem having for the rest of my life. I am considering getting a third, but not because they are or are not popular.

Maybe they're gaining popularilty because of the tatoo shows on TV like Inked. Maybe they're not. I guess it doesn't really matter. I mean, I'd like a tattoo when I'm a bit older, nothing huge. I don't see anything wrong with it unless it was a health concern. I think it's a very creative form of art and expressing yourself - something that means a lot to you :)
And for the first person who posted: people of ALL ages get tattoos. Way to be stereotypical. Gawd...
If you feel so strongly about something to have it tatooed when you're young, such as a heart with initials or something to remind you of a loved one who's passed on, something tells me you'd still want to keep it there over the years. Call me crazy.
lol isn't freedom of speech fun? Of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but that doesn't mean it's right. People are free to do whatever they want with their bodies. If you don't like it, then newsflash hun, you don't have to get a tattoo. Forgive me if I'm wrong but you seem like one of those middle-aged bible-thumpers who are very closed minded and tries to push everything they think is right on everybody else.

Unless you're a Maori or some other South Pacific islander, tattoos are a fad and pretty much vulgar. Ironic how something that's supposed to make you "different" is so commonplace...

I was just thinking about this yesterday. Definitely losing popularity. They are becoming very ho-hum, in my opinion. An accessory you can't get rid of!

Thankfully I think it's almost over. I sure feel sorry for the idiots who have these "pretty" pictures all over their bodies. Just think, a permanant reminder of the stupidity the youth have sometimes after one beer too many.
