how could he - who lived in the 17th century, have known about rockets, when the rocket itself was invented ages after his death?
- - -
and as for the the Bangalore torpedo, it was first devised by Captain McClintock, of the British Army Bengal, Bombay and Madras Sappers and Miners at Bangalore, India, in 1912, not by Tipu Sultan. Captain McClintock invented it as a means of exploding booby traps and barricades left over from the Boer and Russo-Japanese Wars. the Bangalore torpedo would be exploded over a mine without the engineer having to approach it by more than about ten feet (three meters).

look up something called the bangalore torpedo. Those were an early variety of rocket, though I am not sure they are from the era or location you have in mind.
