Here are some MUST TAKES:

- chapstick/lip balm (breathing makes lips dry!)
- hair ties / hair clips
- brush/comb
- socks (at least 2 pairs)
- slippers that don't 'slip'
- 2 night gowns (preferably not 'nice' ones cuz you'll probably get 'stuff' on them while laboring)
- CAMERA / Video recorder
- personal hygiene items (deoderant, makeup, etc...)
- Mouthwash (for refreshing the bad taste in mouth)
- Toothbrush/toothpaste
- Books/magazines/music/ whatever your interests are
- List of numbers of people to call
- Light eating (for partner - snacks, peanuts, granola bars, etc...)
- Lotion/oil if you like massage during labor
- Underpants (nice big ones! For afterwards)
- Large maxi pads
- Going home outfit for yourself
- Going home outfit for baby (weather accomodating)
- Journal (if keeping one)

I know these are all in my bag! I have a small bag with just the 'birthing' stuff in it ... and then my other suitcase with my personal stuff (clothes, baby clothes, underpants, etc...)

Good luck!

I think it depends on the hospital. What kind of stuff the hospital supplies.
I will list the things that almost forgot to pack when I had my first
Toiletry bag.
My own pillow
Stuff to do (like books, crosswords)
Most hospitals supply diapers, they will sometimes use cloth so you can bring your own if you want.
Change if you aren't lucky enough to have a phone in your room
I didn't put my son in a sleeper until the day we left so you really only need one.
The best thing to do is ask your doctor or call the hospital and ask what you should bring for the baby.
For you just pack like you are going on holiday.

It doesn't look like anyone has said this, so I'll just add -- baby sized fingernail clippers.

Usually, the hospital won't clip them and those things are little razors when they're first born...they'll scratch the dickens out of themselves if you don't clip em'.

PJ's, socks, underwear, toothbrush, deodorant, clothes to bring baby home in, clothes for you to wear home, and maybe a blanket for the baby.
