They say it stimulates brain activity. I once had a teacher who would play Mozart while we would take our tests. I do not know how much Mozart helped my brain... but it certainly was calming and made taking the test less stressful.

They used to say that listening to classical music was more brain developing and they used to give a free classical cd out with at birth where I had my oldest two. With my oldest son who is now almost five, since he was my first baby..I played classical music all the time, listening to all the myths of Mozart and Bach. He is now almost ready to go to school but has a speech impediment and you can hardly understand what he says. I do not know if this was because the trauma from the divorce or if it's just normal...but one thing for sure is, Mozart didn't help him at all.

I believe children are smarter when their parents take the role of teaching them instead of music and videos to do it for them.
I've have talked to my son since birth, talking to him not like a baby and not changing my words. I would sing to him along with reading to him everyday.
My son is now 4 years old and learning to read. He uses words that most 4 year olds don't even know. He is can sound out words and write them out.
the other day he said " I have a plan to execute". If he hears me use a word he doesn't know the meaning of he will ask me.
I discouraged "baby talk" and if he said a word incorrectly I would just help him sound it out. I would do this in a positive manner, without making him feel bad.
My point is studies show kids learn the best from their parents and will mimic what mom and dad do.
Parents need to be their teacher. This will surpass what Mozart music can do.

There is a strong correlation there, but one does not directly cause the other, according to my psych professors. However, if you ask the music professor I had last semester, she'd definitely say oh yeah...listening to Mozart (or any other classical music) definitely makes one smarter. It's called the Mozart Effect or something like that by the way.

Not sure about brain development when they sleep...but it certainly can be relaxing.
From the link, here's a copy of the text:
"Some feel that classical music, particularly Mozart is good for an infants mind. While some tentative research has shown it to be helpful to older children, no conclusive evidence is available involving infants."
Bottom line - it can't hurt.
As much aural, tactile and visual stimulation that you can provide for your infant will only help them.

Shes a doctor now and still strives to learn every day. was it the music? I dont know but it really wouldnt hurt to play some Motzart for your baby.
