Does number of planets matter to you?

Yes. it does matter to me. Well, I really liked Pluto because I thought it was small and nobody paid much attention to it and I thought it was cute. But now I know that scientist really pay much attention to it and that is why they now declared that Pluto was a piece of junk which flew form the Kuiper Belt.
Now there is only 8 (well as we know, some other planets are there but they are not yet declared planets yet) known planets.

No, I wouldn't care if our solar system had 3 or 20 planets. What I DO care about is if we are calling things that are not planets (Asteroids like Ceres and Comets like Pluto) planets. I think it's good that we have aggreed on a definition and know we have 8 planets and a few special comets and asteroids now called dwarf planets.

It will help us to define and understand the new solar systems around other stars that we have been discovering.

Not really. The best out of this was to be able to define what a planet is. I personally don't like the definition they gave but I believe we're better than before.

What I do love is the Star Trek planet classification! Very though thru...

Not particularly. The whole planet vs. Not a planet debate is something that makes scientists have something else to debate in their lives. Technically I dont really care if pluto is a planet or a planetismal. woopie..... The number isnt important.

It is better that they took it off. If it isn't a planet then it should not be counted as one just for the conveince of people who don't want to change the way they have been taught. Country change all the time. I guess we should not allow that either. Quit being lazy and learn the right way.

Well actually yes, because thats how i was taught and that is how it will always be to me, if your talking to me about pluto, I think that its stupid that they took it off our planet charts, it is going to confuse children, and i dont think that it will change what people think of pluto, almost everyone know will always say it is a planet, rather than just some rock!!! :o)'

No because technically there could be any number of planets in our system. How do we really know?

No. The number is not important to me.

Understanding the definition of "planet" and how it is applied, is important to me so that I can converse with other scientists.
