In my speech class I just told myself that these people all have to go through the same thing as me and when others started giving speeches, I realized some people were so much more afraid than I was and that made it easier knowing that others felt the same way. The main thing I did was: I told myself that after this speech class, I am never going to see these people again in my life, and even if I did, they wouldn't remember what my speeches were about or even how I presented them. Let me just tell you this: while your up there giving your speech, most likely the only person paying any attention is the professor. Even if the students are staring at you, they are going over their speech in their head and they probably don't even realize your up there. Good Luck, you will do great!

Had speech class in high school so its been a few yrs. Hated it at the time because i have a tendency to be shy. My best advice is to be organized, take a few deep breaths, don't fidget around, speak loud and clear and never, never make complete eye contact with anyone(tends to throw you off) focus on a spot just above your audiences heads and let it rip! Some say picture folks naked, just cracked me up tho. I've been speaking in public now for 11yrs so I'm glad I took the course. Good Luck.

Oh yes, and more. Plan your talk, it is easiest to talk about what you know and even incorporate a story of your own. Know your material and practice it ahead of time at home. Make some notes for you to follow if you need to while you give it. Look at your audience and talk as if you are just talking to one person. Check out the Dale Carnegie book called "How to Win Friends and Influence People." I took speech in school and later took the 12-week Dale Carnegie Course and then gave alot of speeches and presentations in school.

focus only on what you're saying, not what other people are doing. Speech classes are soooo important, and will really make you feel more comfortable in the future. It's worth the experience!

Focus on what you're saying. Look at the audience but avoid eye contact and try not to stare at the same spot all the time. Pay attention to your breathing, and don't speak too fast.
