There are some small hoses on the passenger side. I've removed the clips but they still don't want to come apart. I don't want to force it too much for fear of damaging something. I've got to get it out to replace my harmonic balancer. The Haynes manual I purchased isn't much help.

Try squirting some soapy water at the union, then using a large flat-blade screwdriver to work the hoses off. If they're on there good & that won't work, you may end up having to cut the hoses away, but you can just go get new hoses to replace them. That'll be a whole lot cheaper than a new radiator!

Most likely those hoses are transmission cooling lines. You need to pry them off after removing the clamps!!! They do tend to stick and will need some "persuasion".

If they are just short pieces of hose, you can slice them with a razor knife, and replace them. You can get a piece of hose at any auto parts store (take the old one in to match the size) for a dollar or two.

You need to get a line wrench to remove the transmission cooler lines, which is what it sounds like you're trying to remove. You'll strip the fittings if you're not careful, then you're really up shite creek without a paddle.

i agree that they are probably tranny lines. but look at the connection to see if they might be left handed threads. while you are trying to loosen it you could be tightening it.
