It means that you lose some of your idealistic belief that love is forever and will never hurt you. You lose some of your innocence about what life and love are all about. Also you lose trust in people who you think will never hurt you or leave you. To me, it also means that you will never love or trust the person who has hurt you quite the same as you did before he hurt you.

Yeah its got a lot of symbolism to it. I think that what it means to me is that something that happens the first time to you always hurt the most. If they continue you get used to the pain.
