People do not deserve to have "full control" over their government when they do not assume their responsibility to vote.

We don't have Democracy, and we never did. Because people act without thinking, in the spur of the moment. We have a Republic that keeps people from direct participation. I for one am glad, I'm liberal most of the county is Conservative, Liberals would lose any chance of influence in a direct democracy.

The United States of America is not a democracy, it is a Republic. It is in the Pledge of Elegance.
We do not have a one person, one vote society. Instead, we have a one person/one vote/then the Electoral College can decide to vote differently than the popular vote society. In effect, the rich people have the right to overrule the vote of the masses.
The sad truth is that this is how we are set up.
Don't miss-understand. I love the USA, but we are who we are.

why would we want full control of it ?
you want to control the free society that we have and that we fight for?
I would say that control would tum our democracy into something else
something that a lot of countries now find themselves dealing with, either military dictatorships or despot rule.
no thanks
I'll take the USA and its current system over anything else in the world today

You have just practiced democracy by asking the question.
Try asking questions in Cuba, North Korea, or any of the Muslim countries.
See what happens.

The USA is a lot of things but democracy has been dead in your country for decades. The people who run the country are not the people you voted for. What is needed is a revolution to clean all the Nazi fascists out of your government, then you need to pull out of the middle east and quit trying to steal everyones oil.

and thank god we don't ....
Democracy is nothing but mob rule... a majority changes the existing "rule" ... and some things don't need changing ( not that fast at least)....
we are a representative republic that has democratic principles... we elect someone to represent us in the decision-making process...
I don't want the rule of law subject to change because some sweet-talkin "preacher" is able to bring a crowd to frenzy and proclaim that change is needed now... let calmer heads prevail

NO...we are lead to believe that we live in a democratic society, however how much control do we actually have over our government and our country? ZERO.....we elect people based on lies they tell, and things they say they want to do, none of it gets done, and even when they are doing horrible things to this country, we are stuck with them until the next "election", where we get to start the cycle over again......

No of course not. That is just what the political parties want you to believe!
Who ever gets elected on what ever policies it is the big business, money waving people who control the government, president and any other power source in the nation. This is closely followed by the pressure groups and lobbyists.
Electors only matter to get them in, after that forget it!!!
