With losses this year in the international tournaments in basketball and baseball, has American superiority finally come to an end? Some will argue that the format of these events unfairly disadvantage the Americans, but such comments usually come off as lame sourgrapes excuses.

And will we see American dominance at the Olympics come to an end in China in '08, with China garnering the most medals?

Basketball is a team game. What US did was put together a team of superstars who did not know how to play together. That's why we lost. No reason to sound the alarm just yet.

First off know the facts! Americans have always put more emphasis on the Olympics than the other international games. Our problem is not that the other countries have caught up but that the other countries reps play together in international play all the time where we hap hazardly throw together an all star team instead of a group of teammates. There is no cohesiveness. Before "pros" could play our reps were more together because they played with each other a lot prior to the tournaments. If America really cares about winning these tournaments maybe we should get the NCAA to allow the National Champion to go play instead of a group of hand picked all stars from the NBA, or we should take American Citizens from teams. Also the Dream team worked because it was a dream team of winners and team players not me players and outstanding all stars. Some decisions have to be made.
