The most educated Americans are as good as anyone anywhere but the average standard is higher in Europe: consider the huge number of American discoveries and inventions. For decades, universities in Europe were very selective, and since all teachers had to pass through them they went on to give their high school students an appreciation of fairly high standards. Americans are a doing, practical people and value formal education rather less than Europeans. Then too in Europe you can arrive in another nation after travelling a hundred miles or less. This quickly leads to an awareness of difference, and to a knowledge of other languages, which can lead to enhanced mental agility. America is a continent in itself, which despite its differences is still recognizably American. In tests of various sorts American students have fallen behind their counterparts in Europe, Japan, and Korea. There is work to do, and I hope some Yahoo readers rise to the occasion. Educational standards can be raised even through Yahoo answers.

I don't think there's a straight yes or no answer. Some Europeans are better educated than some Americans, and some Americans are better educated than some Europeans. I'm sure there are studies done showing how much schooling, on average, Europeans and Americans do...so if that is what you are interested in, Google it. But there are ways of self education as well...not to mention that many who have been through years of college still remain uneducated.

Considering America lags behind every major industrialized nation in the world when it comes to education, the answer is obvious.

I almost decided to not answer this question.

But as an after thought I decided to give it a shot.

Who cares! For all we now know and all we can now do on our planet we still can't get it right!

I doesn't matter who you are or where you are. If you want this
world to be a better place you, and only you, have to make the choice to make it so.

Have fun but be safe.
