Obviously, the monitor may be close ot the end of its life. However, did you change any settings? Sometimes, an incompatible setting on your monitor, such as a refresh rate that cannot be supported will produce unusual sounds. This is usually followed by display problems. So, if you did not change anything, my suggestion is to start looking for a new monitor. I agree with many of the other answers which recommend an LCD variety monitor; these produce brilliant colors and draw less power than the standard CRT monitors (not to mention the LCDs take up much less space on your desk).

A new LCD will start at only $200 (for a 17-inch variety).

The cost of repairing a monitor cannot be justified; purchasing a new one is the best value.

Good luck!
