My step-dad dislikes mexican/hispanic people and calls them filthy words and names.
I know his parents didn't raise him this way and his siblings aren't this way.
He even has called his daughter in law,a hispanic filthy names. I am a quarter puerto rican and he has called me names even.
I have called him a racist before to his face and he gets very angry and defensive.
Does anyone know how he could turn out this way?

Influence from others. You don't just wake up one day and decide you are racist/prejudice. Even subtle hints from your parents and their general reactions can shape how someone feels about a certain group of people. Or its possible something else happened in his life to make him this way.

I know my Dad is prejudice against people. One of the things that made him bitter was he was wrongfully let go from a job once and when he went to complain he was told they couldn't help him because he was not a women or a minority. Maybe something like this happened to him?

If this is something that bothers you. Your Mom should have a talk with him in regards to what he calls you. And his son should have a talk to him about how he refers to his wife.

Honey, I am sorry to hear that he talks to you or anyone else like this. That isn't not cool..
What does your mom feel about it?

I think that some people learn things like this from co-workers. They listen to other peoples opinions, and can't seem to see things on their own.

I would ask him, when did God die, and your step father took over for him? He who judges shall be judged.
God Bless Honey

Probably something that had happened to him before, also has to do with lack of understanding (or don't want to understand), and simply hatred & ignorant.

Also he probably has an emotional controll issue, that he get's upsets fast and always self center.

I've dealt with one like that before, totally unreasonable.
